And it was unexpectedly better than the Hummer
General Motors (GM) has confirmed the release of the Chevrolet Silverado EV electric pickup truck based on the new Ultium architecture, known for Hummer electric vehicles. All these machines will be produced at a converted factory in Detroit, which was named “Factory Zero”.
The Silverado EV model can travel up to 644 kilometers on a single charge
Actually, what is new in this information is that the electric pickup truck will be called the same as the petrol model Chevrolet-Silverado. As well as the car manufacturer’s named mileage on a single charge-more than 400 miles, which corresponds to 644 kilometers.
It is the declared mileage that causes the greatest surprise. The fact is that now the Chevrolet Silverado EV in its dimensions roughly corresponds to the already shown electric Hummer pickup truck. In other words, it is also a large and heavy machine.
It is logical to assume that the battery in the Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup truck will be borrowed from the Hummer. However, the power reserve of the latter is only 482 kilometers on a single charge.
Therefore, it is completely unclear why the Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup truck will have a large power reserve. It is difficult to assume that it will use a more capacious battery, since according to our calculations the Hummer battery pack already holds 200kWh.
It turns out that the Silverado should become more efficient than the Hummer. It may not have many options, such as a full-control chassis and “Crab Mode”, which will reduce the weight. In addition, Chevrolet designers are not limited to the chopped forms of “Humvees”, which will allow them to draw their pickup truck more streamlined.
