Google Assistant Driving Mode finally launches globally

Google Assistant’s car mode finally launches globally

It was originally only available in the US

Google has finally begun to roll out the car mode for the Google Assistant Driving Mode globally. The company was in no hurry with its implementation – the automotive mode was introduced almost two years ago at the Google I/O 2019 event, and at the end of 2020 it became available exclusively to users in the United States.

Whereas earlier the support page stated that the mode was only available in English in the United States, now it is stated: “Some features are not available in all languages and only in certain countries”.

Google Assistant can be activated in this way

  1. Turn on your Android phone or tablet and say “Ok Google, open Assistant settings”
  2. Press the “Car” button and then select the Driving mode.
  3. Slide the switch to the desired position.

To work, you need a device with at least 4 GB of RAM and Android 9.0 Pie operating system or a newer version of Android.

Recall that the Google Assistant Driving Mode is intended to replace the Android Auto mode on smartphones. In this mode “Assistant” is able to make calls, answer calls, send SMS, read messages, control music. There is also a panel for quick launch of applications with large buttons.
